We have now received a copy of the Secretary of State's letter that calls-in Veolia's application. It states his reasons for doing so as follows:
"On the information so far available to the Secretary of State, the matters which he particularly wishes to be informed about, for the purposes of his consideration of the application, are:
- the extent to which the proposed development is consistent with the development plan for the area, in particular the Hertfordshire Waste Development Framework Core Strategy and Development Management Policies Development Plan Document 2011-2026
- the extent to which the proposed development is consistent with the National Planning Policy for Waste, the Waste Management Plan for England and the National Planning Policy Framework
and any other matters the Inspector considers relevant."
The Case Officer has been appointed and has invited participants to join the process of preparing for the Inquiry:

Tel 0303 444 5520, Email: [email protected]
No dates have yet been scheduled for the Inquiry, but the date for submitting statements to the Case Officer is 15th Marchc 2018.
We expect that a pre-inquiry meeting (PIM) will be held, though this will be a matter for the Inspector to decide once the inquiry date has been fixed. Any PIM will be to discuss procedural matters only. HertsWoW will be invited since we have been granted 'Rule 6(6)' status.
Guide to Rule 6 Status:
"If you wish to take a very active part in an inquiry you should write to our Case Officer requesting “Rule 6” status. However, to avoid making the inquiry too repetitious, we encourage participants with similar views to group together and elect a spokesperson to appear at the inquiry on the group's behalf. ..."
As a Rule 6 party we are invited to discuss our involvement in the production of a Statement of Common Ground with the applicant (Veolia) and the Council.
