Incinerator proposal for Waterbeach near to Cambridge

Posted by hertswow on March 31, 2018 at 4:20 PM

This is about the expanding waste treatment facilities to the north of the village of Waterbeach which is a few miles north-east of Cambridge.

In 2010 the waste management company AmeyCespa acquired the Donarbon company that operated a Mechanical Biological Treatment facility. The Dunarbon operation was based on a 28 year waste management PFI contract with Cambridgeshire County Council. https://waste-management-world.com/a/ameycespa-aquires-donarbon-limited" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">link

Since February 2012 AmeyCespa has been operating a Materials Recovery Facility at the  site to sort dry recyclables from South Cambridgeshire District Council. https://www.letsrecycle.com/news/latest-news/ameycespa-opens-waterbeach-mrf/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">link

Now  AmeyCespa has applied for planning permission for a mass burn incinerator there so as to burn residual waste to generate electricity. On 7th February 2018 SCDC's "Planning Committee asked that the Council object to the proposals due to the impact they believe they would have on Denny Abbey’s setting. Cambridgeshire County Council will make the final decision on the application".

The local campaign group that is leading local opposition to the proposal is Cambridge Without Incineration Network (CBWIN): https://www.cbwin.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">link
